Burbank, Ca. April 20, 2009 -- More than 60,000 people took advantage of the NBC4 (KNBC) and Telemundo52 (KVEA) free Health and Fitness Expo this past weekend at the Los Angeles Convention Center. This is the second consecutive year that the Expo has driven attendance of more than 60,000 visitors. "With the challenges of the current economy, many people come to the Health & Fitness Expo because they have no other way of monitoring their health and obtain invaluable medical information," said Craig Robinson, President and General Manager of NBC4 Los Angeles. "We are so pleased we can provide this valuable service to the community and have learned from repeat visitors that the tests provided at the Expo really have had a life saving impact on a number of lives." We could not present this Expo if it were not for the support of our many sponsors, exhibitors and station volunteers, said Jose Valle, President and General Manager of Telemundo 52. It is truly a major team effort that allows us to provide free preventive medical screenings to those who may not otherwise get screened. The two-day event, taking place on April 18th and 19th, featured more than 100 health care companies, non-profit organizations, sponsors and green oriented exhibitors. Thousands of Expo-goers were tested for blood pressure, blood sugar/glucose, lung function, cholesterol, kidney disease, renal disease, vision and HIV, among others. Expo visitors also enjoyed healthy cooking, dance and exercise demonstrations throughout the weekend, along with health seminars and a host of family fun activities. Many NBC4 and Telemundo 52 on-air talent were on-hand to sign autographs. NBC4s Dr. Bruce Hensel answered hundreds of question regarding a variety of medical topics and filed news stories for NBC4 over the course of the two-day event. Caso Cerrado Host Ana Maria Polo, who appeared at the Expo on Sunday, drew large crowds of people who were captivated by her story as a breast cancer survivor. For the second consecutive year, the Expo featured a Green Pavillion, which provided the latest information on environmental conservation and new product offerings. Major sponsors of the 2009 Health & Fitness Expo included Aetna, Amgen, American Heart Associations Go Red For Women, 1-800-Dentist, Caremore, Disney Destinations and Scan Health.
