Marketing your Company as Green No Matter the Business

It was Kermit the Frog that sang about how hard it was to be green. But while one of everyone’s favorite Sesame Street characters often bemoaned the fact that being green wasn’t easy, as a business owner you don’t have that luxury.
As a company it’s crucial that your company’s marketing message makes it clear that your company is for sustainable business practices or more simply put – being green.
Customers want sustainability in all aspects of life from good recycling in their homes to doing business with companies that are environmentally responsible.
According to a recent study by Informa, this desire extends to trade shows and other live events. The article discusses how important it is to think about your environmental impact when taking part in such events.
As you position your brand to customers, there’s several things you can do when hosting a live event to make sure your commitment to sustainability doesn’t get left behind.
- Think Local – This can seem easy enough, but when it comes to catering think about featuring organic options from local brands. Not only will you be supporting a local business, you’ll be reducing your company’s carbon footprint.
- Location, location, location – When planning your next event, look for a spot that can be held near public transportation. While things like Uber are great, think about picking a hotel or conference center near a train or light rail line.
- Avoid the plastic – When it comes to hosting your event, think about a catering plan that involves finger foods or look at options to use actual cutlery versus a single use plastic. Additionally, opt for glasses and pitchers of water versus cases of plastic water bottles.
- Be Proud – It’s a significant business expense to position yourself as a green company. If the bagels you are serving are made with locally grown grains and milled locally before being baked at the bakery down the street, make that known. Not only will you potentially be positioning your brand better, but you could be helping that bakery as well.
